... suddenly--though not unexpectedly--I became a soccer mom. Gulp.
Hannah played in her first ever soccer game this weekend at the Mad River Soccer Club jamboree.
They are nearly unbearably cute, these 8 tow-headed 4- and 5-year-olds, in their green uniforms. Comical, capable, nervous, excited and strong all rolled into one. I'd give you the play-by-play, but I'm still a little traumatized by the first quarter. Oh, what the heck.
Our newbies (hereafter, the Mad River Dandelions, MRD) were pitted against a team of little boys, all returning players from last year. We had already lost a player at the team photoshoot. About as soon as play started, we lost most of the remaining MRDs. Hannah up and walked off the field out of frustration. She does not like it when she does not know what she is doing (wonder where she gats that from?). John tried to motivate her back onto the field by pointing out how many goals the other side had scored since she walked off. I told her I was pretty sure she could run faster than any of the kids out there. That's all it took. Have I mentioned we are very much alike my daughter and I?
The rest of the game was terrific. The MRDs had fun, ran around, kicked the ball, more or less figured out what they were supposed to be doing. They don't keep score in this league, or even have goalies. Still. HANNAH SCORED A GOAL!
I'm just so proud. Couple more practices, couple more games, and the MRD will be a force to reckon with.
Not to mention that while they may not be the the most experienced bunch, they are by far the most clever. After all, who's going to be able to get a ball into that goal if they're blocking the whole thing?
From L to R that's: Jayme, Owen, Hannah, Quin, Leif
